This post is part of my blogtober celebration, my month-long blog party about all things creepy and Halloween-y! If you've got a fall post, make sure to add it to the Linky so I can check it out!
I've just started this book called The Savages by Matt Whyman, and I thought it would be perfect to pair with a Halloween-themed drink! As an adult, I don't really have an excuse to dress up. Most of my friends are in grad school far away, so I won't really have a party to go to, but I really want to make some fun theme drinks just for fun because Halloween is on a Friday this year.
I also really love the cover art on Savages. I'm not big on people on the cover, but the illustration is really cool, and I'm terrified by the little boy in the corner. He looks like the worst one. For a book about a family of cannibals, I thought the perfect drink pairing would be the Black Widow.
First mix a few drops of red food coloring with sugar crystals (some places have them made, but in case you can't find them, this is just as good), then line a small cocktail glass with them. Pour about a shot of cranberry juice over some ice, and then add about a shot and a half of black vodka on top. Add a cherry (with a cute little skull toothpick like this one if you can find it), and your drink is made!
Super easy and super bloody-looking! (I don't know whether that's a good or bad thing)
